Apartment Fire Ruled Arson

From Staff And Wire Reports

A fire Wednesday that damaged a second-floor apartment in a Spokane building was intentionally set, authorities said.

As Spokane Fire Department crews arrived at 8:40 a.m., residents of the Helen Apartments, S173 Adams, were being evacuated after an alarm sounded, said Battalion Chief Joe Stapleton.

No one was injured during the fire, which was confined to an apartment on the second floor of the three-story building, Stapleton said.

Flames burned furniture, bedding and walls throughout the apartment, he said.

Fires were set in several locations in the apartment. Stapleton said. Firefighters at the scene weren’t able to locate the apartment’s occupant.
