Nbc’s ‘Er’ Tops The Nielsen Ratings Once More

NBC’s doctor drama “ER” topped the the Nielsen ratings for the second consecutive week with a 23.9 rating/ 38 share.

A rating point equals 954,000 television households. A share is a percentage of the TV sets in use during a time period.

The NBC sitcom “Seinfeld” grabbed second place, followed by a rerun of the network’s “Mad About You” in third. The CBS newsmagazine “60 Minutes” placed fourth, and a rerun of ABC sitcom “Home Improvement” was fifth.

The ABC sitcom “Grace Under Fire” tied with NBC’s “Friends” for the No. 6 spot. The CBS mystery series “Murder, She Wrote” was eighth, followed by the ABC cop drama “NYPD Blue” in ninth. The ABC newsmagazine “20/20” rounded out the top 10.

NBC had the highest average primetime ratings for the week (11.5), followed by CBS (11.4), ABC (11.2), Fox (8.9) and the fledgling WB Network (2.0). Nielsen is not releasing ratings information for the new United Paramount Network.
