Dante Calabria led No. 3 North Carolina’s record-setting 3-point shooting Wednesday night, scoring a career-high 26 points as the Tar Heels cruised by Florida State, 100-70, at Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Tar Heels (5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference, 15-1) won their sixth straight game and moved into a first-place tie atop the ACC with Maryland, which beat Clemson. Virginia’s loss at home to Wake Forest dropped the Cavaliers a half-game back.

Florida State (9-6, 3-4) saw its three-game ACC winning streak come to an end despite a career-high 26 points from freshman Corey Louis.

The Tar Heels, shooting 42 percent from long range coming into the game, set a school record with 17 3-pointers. Calabria, the nation’s leading 3-point shooter at 60 percent, was 8 for 11 from 3-point range to tie the individual school mark, held by Hubert Davis.

(5) Kentucky 69, Tennessee 50 At Lexington, Ky., Rodrick Rhodes scored a career-high 29 points, becoming the 41st player in Kentucky history to score 1,000 points.

Rhodes, a junior forward, hit a 3-pointer with 49 seconds to go as he was left in the game with reserves in order to reach the milestone.

Kentucky (7-0 Southeastern Conference, 13-2) registered its seventh straight win with a pressing defense that forced the Volunteers (2-5, 7-8) to commit a season-high 27 turnovers and shoot a season-low 29 percent (15 for 51).

(8)Maryland 56, Clemson 51

At Clemson, S.C., Joe Smith scored 17 points and blocked a potential game-tying shot with 8 seconds left to preserve the Terrapins’ win.

The Terrapins (5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference, 15-3) led 42-29 with 10:18 to go, but then went 4 minutes without a basket.

It was Maryland’s fourth straight victory and ninth in 10 games. The Tigers dropped to 1-5, 10-5.

(10) Michigan St. 54, Minnesota 53

At East Lansing, Mich., Jon Garavaglia hit a jumper from the left corner with 6.8 seconds remaining and the Spartans overcame their worst shooting night of the season.

The win was the fourth by two points or less for the Spartans (5-1 Big Ten, 13-2) over the past six games.

Voshon Lenard had given the Gophers (4-3, 13-6) a 53-52 lead with a jumper from the top of the key with 28 seconds to go. The Spartans worked the ball around until they found Garavaglia open on the baseline.

(11) Iowa St. 81, N. Iowa 62

Florida (3-3, 9-6), continuing to struggle a year after making its first Final Four, kept it tight by holding Auburn without a point for 4 minutes.
