Nance Gets Tribute

Compiled From Wire Services

The Cleveland Cavaliers paid tribute to retired forward Larry Nance retiring his No. 22 jersey at halftime of their game against the Phoenix Suns.

Nance, who ended his playing career in September because of knee problems, split his 13 years between Phoenix and Cleveland, becoming the areer shot blocker among forwards with 2,027 blocks. He rejoined the Cavs as a special assistant coach Jan. 9.

“This is what I’ve played basketball my whole life to accomplish. Retirement is supposed to be a sad day, but this is not a sad day for me.”

Nance became the fourth Cavs player to have his number retired, joining Bingo Smith (No. 7), Austin Carr (No. 34) and Nate Thurmond (No. 42).
