Hico Outlet Is In South Hill Plan

From Staff And Wire Reports

An upper South Hill neighborhood may become home to a Hico Mini-Mart & Gas Station.

The convenience grocery/gas station, to be located at 4501 S. Regal St., will be at most a 600-square-foot addition to the existing Minit-Lube. The center will bear no resemblance to the sprawling Hico Village at Sprague and Argonne in the Valley, replete with dry cleaner, car wash, laundry and fast food.

“It’s not going to be nearly as extensive as a Hico Village,” said Dave Nakagawara, plans examiner for the city of Spokane. “They’re basically taking one end and bumping it out for cash register.”

Construction of canopied service station islands and a small market are under way, but facilities will not be installed until the end of a twoweek waiting period to hear residents’ objections.

Anyone wishing to appeal the Hico Mini-Mart & Gas Station, should send letters detailing factual objections to Bob Eugene, Skywalk Level, Municipal Building, Spokane, WA 99201-3343. Letters must be received by 5 p.m. July 20. For information on how to write objections, call Gerry Shrope at 625-6300.
