Cougars Sign Six Women To Their Swimming Team

Six high school seniors have signed national letters of intent to attend Washington State University in the fall, Cougar swim coach Deb Pipher announced.

Katie Keller, a graduate of Highline High (Seattle) school, placed third in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle at the State AAA meet, and was the captain of the squad.

Jessica Chisholm of Concord, Calif., earned four varsity letters at Clayton Valley High, She is an All-American in the 200 medley relay.

Wendy Enderle of Port Angeles, Wash., was her school’s most valuable swimmer. She was 15th in the 100 backstroke and 16th in the 100 butterfly at the State AAA championships.

Elizabeth Hohaia of Lacey, Wash., was a member of the undefeated, league and district champion team from Timberline High School. She swam in two events at state and three relays.

Tanja Dill of Philomath, Ore., was most valuable swimmer at Crescent Valley High. She was sixth in the 100 butterfly at state.

Jessica (Jessy) Kent comes to WSU from Eau Claire, Wis., where she holds the conference record in the 50 freestyle (24.7) and was MVP for both the swim squad and basketball team.

Baseball

Jon Edwards, an assistant baseball coach last spring at Whitman College, has been appointed head coach at the school.

He replaces Max Seachris, who retired from coaching last month to concentrate on duties as athletic director.

The Spokane Heat, a select team of 14-year-olds, has qualified for the National AAU Junior Olympic World Series Aug. 4-11 in Coco, Fla.

College scene

Susie Jarosch and Jed Stannard of Washington State have been named Pacific-10 Conference Medal winners. The conference annually awards a medal to each Pac-10 school’s outstanding senior and male athlete based on the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.

Jarosch was a point guard on the women’s basketball team and a three-time conference all-academic team member.

Stannard, second in the Pac-10 high jump and an all-academic member, is working on a Master’s Degree after graduating in May 1994.

Stefanie Magill, a Washington State junior majoring in biology, was picked as a member of the Pacific-10 All-Academic Team for crew. Magill, of Woodinville, Wash., has a 3.59 grade-point average.

Shad Nichols of Spokane (Ferris High School), a freshman at Principia College in Elsah, Ill., earned a varsity letter in baseball this spring.
