Although Jarrett Wins, Little Gains Ground In Points Race

Dale Jarrett led the final 78 laps and edged Larry Pearson by 0.43 seconds Sunday to win the Busch Grand National Series’ Sears Auto Centers 250 in Milwaukee.

Jarrett, who averaged 95.379 mph in his Ford for his first Grand National victory since 1991, started from the rear of the field after Wisconsin driver Jim Sauter qualified the car Saturday while Jarrett was in Daytona Beach, Fla., for the Pepsi 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race.

Jeff Green finished third and Dennis Setzer fourth. Series leader Johnny Benson, who entered the race with a 154-point edge over Spokane’s Chad Little, crashed on lap 160 and finished 33rd. Little was eighth to move within 76 points.

French Grand Prix

World champion Michael Schumacher won the French Grand Prix at Magny Cours, France, his fourth triumph of the season in seven races.

Runner-up Damon Hill was 31.3 seconds back.

It was the 14th career victory for Schumacher, who leads the driver standings with 46 points. Hill is second with 35.
