Some Area Fourth Of July Holiday Events

Neighbor Days: Spokane’s big celebration in Riverfront Park will be today and Tuesday.

The booths at the Ethnic Food Fair in the park’s Gondola Meadow will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On both nights, bands will entertain from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tonight, Craig Volosing’s Goodtimes Band entertains at the meadow. Tuesday, the Lindell Reason Band will do the honors.

The Clocktower Meadow will also feature performances from numerous Inland Northwest bands (funk, blues, jazz, and more) from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday.

In the Lilac Bowl, Black Forest plays tonight at 6 and will be followed by the popular reggae/calypso/soca band Jumbalassy at 8 p.m.

Tuesday, the Lilac Bowl will make way for performances from local bands, starting at noon and lasting into the evening.

The Spokane Jazz Orchestra featuring soprano Ann Fennessy will provide the musical backdrop for the fireworks spectacle, which begins at 10:20 p.m.

Other activities will be held both days. A Velcro wall, where kids strap on a suit, spring into the air and stick on a giant wall of Velcro, will be erected in the Central Meadow. Bouncy Boxing will be staged in the same area.

St. John’s Cathedral: Before Tuesday’s fireworks show, the cathedral, 127 E. 12th, will present its annual carillon concert at 9 p.m. Andrea McCrady and Nancy Cooper will play Revolutionary War and Civil War era hymns, ragtime and jazz pieces, and John Philip Sousa’s marching favorites “Liberty Bell,” “Washington Post” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” Free.

Listeners are invited to bring blankets, lawnchairs and picnic items.

Coeur d’Alene: The Lake City’s American Heroes Fourth of July Parade begins at 11 a.m. at the corner of 15th and Sherman and ventures west on Sherman.

Before the parade, people of all ages can embark on a one-mile fun run down the parade route. Tuesday night, fireworks will be set off from a barge at the marina. People can best see the fireworks from the parks, the City Beach and the front lawn of The Coeur d’Alene Resort.

Sandpoint: Tuesday’s festivities begin with a parade, which will wrap around downtown Sandpoint. In the afternoon, City Beach will host a variety of activities plus a carnival. At nightfall, fireworks will be shot over Lake Pend Oreille.

Grand Coulee Dam: The Fourth of July Festival at Grand Coulee Dam continues today in the park below Grand Coulee Dam’s Visitor Arrival Center.

Today and Tuesday, a 40-minute laser-light show will be projected onto the face of the dam at 10 p.m. On July 4, fireworks will be launched from the top of the dam starting at 10:35 p.m.

There also will be all sorts of family entertainment, such as games and other activities, in the park. Food and arts vendors will be on hand, too. Park admission is free.

Pullman: A community celebration sponsored by the Pullman Chamber of Commerce begins at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Sunnyside Park. A fireworks show begins after dark.

Othello: This Adams County city’s annual Sun Faire celebration in Lions Park on Tuesday will feature lots of family events, such as a Sun Run, a tennis tournament, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, live music, hot-air balloon rides. The fireworks start at 10 p.m.

Bonners Ferry: As part of Kootenai River Days, the Boundary County Fairgrounds will host a community picnic and country/bluegrass festival beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday. There will be games, food and displays. A fireworks display begins at dusk.
