American Factories Slow Down In June

American manufacturing weakened in June, reflecting a slowdown at the nation’s factories, a widely followed survey of industrial companies showed Monday.

But the mild contraction - the second consecutive monthly decline - was expected and is unlikely to sway central bankers meeting later this week on interest rate policy, economists said.

The National Association of Purchasing Management said its index of manufacturing growth slipped to 45.7 percent in June from 46.1 percent in May.
