Convicted Wife Killer Arrested For Violating Conditions Of Parole

A Spokane man who served nearly 10 years in prison for killing his wife and stuffing her body in a suitcase was picked up Monday evening on a parole violation.

Police arrested Monte Anderson, 43, about 8:40 p.m. at an apartment at 6616 N. Addison.

Charles B. Fife, 32, who was wanted on several outstanding warrants, also was taken into custody.

Police spokesman Dick Cottam issued a statement Tuesday saying he knew nothing about the incidents surrounding the arrest.

The statement did say police received a tip the two men might have been involved in a robbery at the U.S. Bank, 3909 N. Lincoln, which took place Monday afternoon.

No new charges have been filed against either Fife or Anderson, police said.

In 1984, Anderson was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife, Shelly Anderson. He was eligible for parole after 7 1/2 years and was released from the state penitentiary in May 1994, when he returned to Spokane.

Anderson missed a routine appointment with his parole officer last month to be tested for drug and alcohol use. He hadn’t been heard from since. Fife has past convictions for assault, armed robbery and burglary.
