Baseball Season Rounds Third

Spokane Valley Baseball is entering the home stretch.

Pony League champions have been determined and the district all-star tournament is Friday and Saturday in Pullman beginning at noon.

Pee Wee League teams, discounting makeup games, are into their final two games and the Midgets have three and four remaining, beginning tonight.

End-of-season tournaments in all three leagues begin July 19.

West Valley’s unbeaten Pony American Division champions had a four-game lead over the field heading into its final game.

Mountain View II won the National Division with an eight-inning 14-12 win over runnerup Perfection Tire.

The team blew a 10-1 lead when Perfection tied the score at 11-11 in the sixth. But Mountain View scored three times in extra innings, then stranded Perfection baserunners who had reached second and third with no outs in the bottom of the frame.

Elsewhere, Spokane County Sheriff’s Josh Bunch pitched a two-run, nine-strikeout win over Food Rainbow and homered against WV.

Midgets remain perfect

Northwest Fence and Medicine Shoppe in the American Division and Resort By the Tracks in the National are unbeaten entering their final Midget League games.

Northwest Fence got six innings of 14 strikeout, 4-hit pitching by Seth Gemar during two wins to go 9-0. He also hit two doubles during one win and Chris Rodgers went 5-for-7 for the pair.

Medicine Shoppe’s Justin Webley hit a triple and home run during one win and Ryan Harris was 4-for-4 in another for the 8-0 team.

Midget highlights included three successive wins by Norma’s Burger Barn that included Matt Dilley’s basesloaded double in the sixth to beat Dave’s Sandwiches, and Tony Scalici’s game-winning RBI in the sixth to beat Tradition House.

Matt Damskov had six hits in two games for Aztech Electric and Tyler Wasson had four in one game and a triple in the other.

Resort By The Tracks clubbed National Division Valley Firefighters 25-6 and improved to 7-0.

Also, Mark Petrie hit a grand slam home run during Spear’s Used Cars 18-0 waltz past Data Comp.

Pee Wee title on line Monday

Unbeaten Tom’s Barber Shop in the American Division, risks its 9-0 record Monday at Greenaces against once-beaten Les Schwab.

Five pitchers, including Brian Offield who retired nine straight in one game, combined on last week’s victories. R.J. Miller had three home runs, including a grand slam.

Jeremy Kline went 5-for-6 in two games for Aztech Electric with two home runs and two doubles.

Barring upset, 9-0 Valley OB Gyn has a National Division title in sight.

Girls league at mid-point

Valley Girls Softball has reached the mid-point of its league season with divisional adjustments having been made according to record.

In the 16-Under league, F&F Foundations and Pabco Roofing have moved to the front with identical 5-1 records.

The newly aligned 14-Unde National Division is led by Craig’s Automotive at 5-0 followed by four 4-1 teams. Formerly in the American, Craigs won twice, including 10-8 over New Image Video with four seventhinning runs. Nila Gregory tripled and Ashlee Suddeth doubled for the deciding runs.

New 14-Under American team A- Dog Grooming (3-3) handed National runnerup Awardmasters its first defeat, 14-13 on A.J. Graham’s two-run double.

Yoke’s Pac’n Save leads the new 12-Under league American Division with a 5-0 record, The Firm is 5-1 and four others are 4-1.

Last week Garco Construction’s Andrea Manos went 5-for-6 and drove in five runs. Mary Lou’s Ice Cream pitcher Erika Gunderson struck out six in three innings.

Conley’s Place at 7-0 and Pioneer Title at 6-0 are the leaders of the 10-Under League’s National Division. Crary & Clark is 6-0 in the American. Three teams have one loss.

Conley’s Shannon Anderson hit two home runs to drive in four runs and shared strikeout honors with Jessica Gordon against Arby’s, the pair combining for 16.

The team also handed Sunset Decks its initial loss, 7-2.
