Obituaries

Emma Goede

Odessa, Wash.

Service for Emma (Raugust) Goede, 100, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heritage United Congregational Church Sanctuary in Odessa. Burial to follow at Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Odessa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Goede, who was born in Russia, died Sunday.

She immigrated to the United States in 1903 and arrived in the Ritzville area.

She was a homemaker until 1934 and then worked as a cook in restaurants, bakeries and cafes.

Her husband, Charles Goede, died in 1967.

Mrs. Goede is survived by two sons, Norman Goede of Coeur d’Alene and Weldon Goede of Post Falls; three grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren, seven great-greatgrandchildren, one stepgrandson and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Odessa Cemetery Chapel Fund.

Kathryn Lewis

Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Kathryn J. Lewis, 77, will be at 11 a.m. today at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Lewis, who was born in Saskatchewan, died Sunday.

She moved with her family to Coeur d’Alene in 1919, and served in the Army during World War II.

She owned Lewis Business Services for over 41 years, specializing in accounting and tax preparation.

She was a member of El Karnak Temple and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Coeur d’Alene Soroptimist Club, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and the Aviation Travelcard Club. She was the past president of the Coeur d’Alene Daughters of the Nile Club.

Mrs. Lewis was christened at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Coeur d’Alene and sang in the choir and served as the auditor for many years.

Survivors include her husband, James; three sisters, Lois Spooner of Spokane, and Jessie Wilcox and Charolette Bishop, both of Coeur d’Alene; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or Hospice of North Idaho.

Mable Davis

Kent, Wash.

Memorial service for Mable L. Davis, 69, is set for noon today at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Kent. Graveside service will be at noon Friday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Davis, who was born in Roundup, Mont., died Friday.

She had lived in Spokane for 22 years, before moving to Kent in 1973. She had worked as a commercial manager for 20 years for G. E. Medical Systems in Seattle and Spokane before retiring in 1986.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Davis is survived by two sons, Clark Davis of Tampa, Kan., and Charles Davis of Kent; two daughters, Carol Neumann of Kent and Connie Davis of Spokane; one brother, Leonard Skagen of Roundup; four sisters, Inga Heidema of Burien, Wash., Anne Popovich of Renton, Wash., Grace Yander of Aurora, Calif., and Helen Jasbeck of Billings, Mont., six grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Enough to Grow St. Luke’s Building Fund, 515 S. 312th, Federal Way, Wash.

Frank Thomas

Colfax, Wash.

Service for Frank Thomas, 87, is planned for 10:30 a.m. today at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Burial will follow at Pullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas, who died Saturday at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, was born in Portland.

He and his wife, Dorothy, moved to Pullman in 1980, from Portland. They moved to Colfax two months ago.

He was a member of the Pullman Senior Center.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roland Jensen of Hillsboro, Ore., and Paul Thomas of Salem, Ore.; one daughter, Susan Casey of Aumsville, Ore.; four brothers, Carl Thomas of Salem, Matthew Thomas of Woodburn, Ore., William Thomas of Garden Home, Ore., and Fred Thomas of Portland; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Council on Aging of Pullman Senior Center.

Elsie Golden

Spokane

Funeral Mass for Elsie M. Golden, 89, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Priest River, Idaho, with burial following at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Golden died Saturday in Spokane, where she had lived for the last 28 years.

She was born in Hope, Idaho, and had lived in the Priest River area for more than 40 years.

In Priest River, she worked in logging camps and for the Loraine Hotel.

Mrs. Golden was a member of St. Catherine’s and St. Patrick’s Catholic Churches.

Her husband, Peter Golden, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Mavis “Madge” Carstens of Harrington, Wash.; several grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine’s Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.

Patrick Marley

Spokane

No service will be held for Patrick L. Marley, 49, at his request. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marley, who was born in Tacoma, died Saturday.

He moved to Spokane in 1982 from Pacific Grove, Calif., and worked at Star Lanes Bowling Alley. He also worked for Colonial Bowl.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Linda; two sons, Gary Marley and Scott Marley, both of Spokane; two brothers, John Marley of Tumwater, Wash., and Charles Gibson of San Antonio, Texas; and one sister, Barbara Baughn of Auburn, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Cherye Neal

Rathdrum, Idaho

Memorial service for Cherye L. Neal, 39, will be Friday at 4 p.m. at the English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Neal, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Sunday.

She lived in Cheney for 15 years before moving to Oregon, where she lived for 1 years. She moved to Rathdrum one month ago.

Mrs. Neal was a licensed practical nurse and a child care provider in the mental health field.

Survivors include her husband, Kelsa Neal Jr.; two daughters, Raelyn Yearout of Beaverton, Ore., and Rachel Randall of Spokane; three stepsons, Thomas, Kelsa and Cortnee Neal of Spokane; her father, Richard Tift of Union, Ore.; three brothers, Cleve Clift of Portland, Lyle Clift of Belfield, N.D., and Bill Clift of Butte, Mont.; two sisters, Marie Fox of Butte and Cassy Oddy of Rathdrum; grandson, Donald Randall III of Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter ‘Ray’ Ballard

Vancouver, Wash.

Service for Walter “Ray” Ballard, 71, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Layne’s Funeral Chapel in Battle Ground, Wash. Burial site has yet to be determined.

Mr. Ballard, who was born in Hillsboro, Ore., died Friday of heart failure.

He had been a longtime resident of Cheney, before moving from the area three months ago.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Navy. He had worked as a heavy equipment salesman for Empire Machinery Works.

Mr. Ballard was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of Cheney; his mother, Leah Stiff of Vernonia, Ore.; one son, Chris Ballard, Vancouver; one stepson, Mark Roach, Albany, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Joel Roach, Portland; one brother, Elvin Stiff, Newberg, Ore.; two sisters, Patricia Wilhelm, of Whidbey Island, Wash., and Lorene Tousson, of New Mexico; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Leonard Gorman

Colville, Wash.

Service for Leonard A. Gorman, 65, is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville. Graveside service will follow at the Mountain View Park Cemetery.

Mr. Gorman, who was born in Allaince, Neb., died Sunday.

He came to Colville with his family when he was 2 and graduated from Colville High School in 1949. He had worked for Colville Valley Concrete for 43 years.

He was a member of the Colville Eagles Lodge.

Mr. Gorman is survived by his wife, Marjorie “Midge” Gorman; one daughter, Sandy Gorman-Brown of Seattle; one son, Michael Gorman, Medical Lake; and two grandsons.

Dorothy McNair

Newport, Wash.

Memorial service for Dorothy E. McNair, 88, is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Newport Lutheran Church, with private inurnment at Newport Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McNair, who died Sunday, was born in Grandview, Wash.

She had lived in Pend Oreille County since 1931 and was a homemaker.

She played piano at many local dances and was a member of the Spring Valley Home Club.

Her husband, Hallie McNair, died in 1990.

She is survived by one son, Tim McNair of Libby, Mont.; one daughter, Phyllis Davie of Newport; one brother, E.J. Lundy Jr., of Clinton, Wash.; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Marie Stretch

Spokane

Graveside service for Marie R. Stretch, 83, was held Monday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Stretch, who died Tuesday, was born in Minneapolis.

A homemaker, she had lived in Spokane since 1939.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Stretch; one daughter, Suzanne Viets of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
