Vice President’s Mother Recuperating

Doctors removed a blood clot Wednesday from the brain of Vice President Al Gore’s mother. The apparently successful operation followed a mild stroke she had suffered less than 24 hours after having had a heart attack.

Gore flew from Washington to be with his 82-year-old mother, Pauline. She was in stable but critical condition after about four hours of surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

“If nothing else happens, she stands an excellent chance of making a functional recovery,” said Dr. George Allen, the neurosurgeon who operated on Pauline Gore.The family was allowed to visit with her after the operation.
