2 Inmates Charged With Eating Prisoner

Compiled From Wire Services

Two inmates of a prison in the Altai territory of Siberia have been charged with cooking and eating a fellow prisoner, the Interfax news agency reported Friday.

Investigators said the two suspects, identified only as Gluzov, 25, and Maslich, 23, strangled a 23-year-old fellow prisoner, cut up his body and cooked parts of it over on a fire made from a blanket.

“Even the seasoned wardens were shocked,” the Interfax report said.

The news service did not say when the incident allegedly took place.

Investigators said the two prisoners, already serving long sentences for unspecified “grave crimes,” could face the death penalty if convicted. Their trial begins Monday.
