Boxers Close To Deal

Compiled From Wire Services

An agreement for a November bout between former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield and reigning WBO champion Riddick Bowe appears close.

Although Holyfield’s camp remains open to other possibilities, a third fight against Bowe could be scheduled as early as next week with Holyfield in line for a $9- to $10-million payment, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Dan Duva, the promoter for Holyfield, confirmed that the fighter is close to signing a deal for a fight with Bowe.

Phoenix junior-flyweight Michael Carbajal will finally get a shot at another major title on Sept. 16 when he will challenge World Boxing Association champion Hi Yong Choi of South Korea.

Carbajal’s trainer and brother, Danny, said a deal for a 12-round bout has been made with Choi’s management in Seoul.

The Carbajal-Choi bout will appear on a card that will feature Julio Cesar Chavez in a defense of his World Boxing Council junior-welterweight title.
