Cda Schools Look To Combat Growth

The rapid growth of Coeur d’Alene schools and the inability to keep up with classroom space is the primary topic of discussion at the school board meeting tonight.

Ann Smart, chairwoman of the Coeur d’Alene School District’s Long-Range Planning Committee, will present a list of options the committee has compiled on how to deal with growth.

The middle schools remain a top priority. A year ago, voters turned down a bond levy that would have financed a third middle school.

Alternatives to another bond levy election include double-shifting at the existing middle schools and establishing a school made up mostly of portables in the Northshire neighborhood.

No matter how unattractive they may be, “I don’t think we can overlook any options,” Smart said.

Also on the board agenda is the swearing in of newly elected board member Tim Olson and the adoption of language arts textbooks.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the administrative center, 311 N. 10th. St.
