Cowboys Sign Haley To Extension

Compiled From Wire Services

All-Pro defensive end Charles Haley has received a four-year contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys for $12 million.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the deal, reached Sunday in Irving, Texas, includes a $3 million signing bonus and counts $2 million against this year’s salary cap. Haley was to earn $1.95 million this season in the final year of his previous contract.

Haley, 31, retired immediately after the Cowboys’ 38-28 loss to San Francisco in the NFL title game, but returned to the team March 8.

Defensive end Alfred Williams, formerly of Cincinnati, agreed to a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers that could net him as much as $1.2 million.

San Francisco is also close to signing Washington Redskins free-agent running back Ricky Ervins.
