Disabled residents who need training in community skills - including cooking, cleaning and checkbook balancing - have a new resource in town.
S.L. Start and Associates is a private service that specializes in training people with disabilities to live independently.
The business is holding an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at its new Developmental Disability Center in the Potlatch Building at 601 Sherman Ave.
The center plans to offer most of its training in the homes of the people it serves. Community support specialists employed by S.L. Start and Associates help with daily living needs.
The company will compete with TESH Inc., a local non-profit organization that trains disabled people in work and life skills.
