Hospitals Fear Medicare Changes

Compiled From Wire Services

The nation’s largest hospital association warned Monday that Republicans were moving too fast in their attempt to fundamentally overhaul the Medicare program in the next 90 days.

Officials with the American Hospital Association, in a news conference, renewed their call for the creation of an independent commission to decide what to do about the 30-year-old insurance program for the elderly.

Ensuring Medicare’s solvency for the next generation, these officials argued, demands a fundamental re-examination with everything on the table, including payroll tax increases and sweeping change in the way health services are delivered.
