Man Drowns After Backing Over Cliff

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Warden man died Sunday afternoon when he accidentally backed a vehicle over a 50-foot cliff and landed in a Grant County lake.

The 19-year-old man’s name has not been released. He had been swimming with three friends in lower Goose Lake before he backed off the cliff.

The man started a friend’s vehicle and began to pull forward when the owner told him not to, according to a statement from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Then, the man put the vehicle in reverse. Skid marks at the scene indicated the victim tried to stop, but slid over the cliff, the sheriff’s statement said.

His three friends looked over the cliff for the man, but when they didn’t spot him, they ran to the nearest house to get help.
