Hugh Grant Pleads No Contest To Charge

Compiled From Wire Services

Hugh Grant, back in the country on a film promotional tour, pleaded no contest Tuesday to a charge that he had sex with a prostitute in his car. He was fined $1,180 and ordered to undergo an AIDS education program.

Grant, whose “Nine Months” opens today and who has been making himself available to the media, somehow couldn’t find his way to court Tuesday. His lawyers handled the matter.

Grant, 34, was also placed on two years’ probation.

Grant appears to be on a mission to put this unpleasant episode behind him and salvage his career. His public mea culpa to Jay Leno gave “The Tonight Show” its third-highest ratings ever.
