Wwp Shifts Licenses To Prepare For Merger

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Washington Water Power Co. has begun the process of transferring its dam licenses to Resources West Energy Corp., the company that will be created when it merges with Sierra Pacific Resources.

Hydro licensing coordinator Rod Pharness said the company holds four licenses for its dams on the Clark Fork, Spokane and Colville rivers.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission must approve the license transfers, as well as the merger itself, he said.

“This is one of the Ts in all the Is and Ts to get the merger in place,” he said. “It’s basically a name change.”

Pharness said FERC has no jurisdiction over the Little Falls dam on the Spokane River because construction of the project was authorized by an act of Congress.

Approval of the WWP-Sierra Pacific merger is expected by the end of the year.
