Locals Split Matches

Medalist Carson Mooney struggled at times but came away with a victory in the opening match-play round of the Pacific Northwest amateur tournament at the par-72, 6,806-yard Oregon Golf Club course Tuesday.

In other matches, Jim Zadvorny of Tucson, Ariz., defeated Scott Carroll of Spokane, 6 and 5. Bob Christensen of Hayden Lake, Idaho, defeated Todd Weeks of Vancouver, British Columbia, 6 and 5.

The tournament will have double rounds today and Friday before concluding Saturday with a 36-hole final.
