Birdie Shaw

Spokane

Service for Birdie L. Shaw, 88, is set for 10 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Born in Weldon, Ill., Mrs. Shaw died Monday.

She had lived in Springdale, Wash., where she and her husband operated a chicken ranch. She moved to Spokane 14 years ago. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Albert Shaw, died in 1979.

She is survived by one niece, Anne Schriebe of Federal Way, Wash.

She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Janis Smith

Spokane

Service for Janis L. Smith, 54, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Peone Prairie Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith, a 51-year Spokane resident, died Sunday.

Born in Amarillo, Texas, she worked as a baker in public schools.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Jerry Smith Sr.; one son, Jerry Smith Jr. of Spokane; two daughters, Kelly Smith and Ruth Couch, both of Spokane; her mother, Bonnie Spencer of Spokane; her father, Alfred Brunk of Paradise, Calif.; two sisters, Judy Herrell of Elk and Betty Tomlinson of Spokane; one brother, William Spencer of Elk; and four grandsons.

Dorothy Repp

St. John, Wash.

Graveside service for Dorothy Allen Repp, 78, was held Monday at St. John’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Repp died July 7 in Buckley, Wash., where she had moved recently to be with her son.

She was born in Lansing, Mich.

She was a homemaker and lived in St. John for 30 years.

She was a member of the Lady’s Auxiliary of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. John’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Alan Goegebuer of Buckley, and Steven Goegebuer of Des Moines, Wash.; four grandsons and four great-grandchildren.

Bjarne ‘Barney’ Larson

Spokane

Graveside service for Bjarne “Barney” Larson, 85, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Larson, who was born in Fort Ransom, N.D., died Monday.

He moved to the Spokane area when he was in his 20s and worked for the railroad, on farms and as a logger. He worked on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam and later worked for Alcoa and Kaiser Aluminum in Mead. He retired in 1967 after 25 years.

He was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

His wife, Helen Larson, preceded him in death.

He is survived by one daughter, Kay Larson of Spokane; two sons, Barney Larson of Spokane and Gary Larson of East Wenatchee; and two grandchildren.

Lois Foy

Spokane

Memorial service for Lois C. Foy, 75, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Lilac Plaza. Private burial will be at Garfield Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Foy, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

She graduated from North Central High School and Kinman Business University and was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Richard Foy of Spokane; one daughter, Elizabeth Kozlowski of Arvada, Colo.; one sister, Myrtle Woody; and two grandchildren.

Goldie Kist

Spokane

Memorial service for Goldie Kist, 77, was held Wednesday at Pines Mausoleum. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kist, a 50-year Spokane resident, died Monday.

She was born in Spokane.

She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

Her husband, Edwin Kist, preceded her in death.

She is survived by three nieces, Effie Speer of Culdesac, Idaho, Clara Haskett of Hermiston, Ore., and Sandra Joye of Orofino, Idaho; three nephews, Richard Tift of Hermiston, William Tift of Woodinville, Wash., and Frank Lyons of Phoenix; and two grandnieces.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Selma ‘Sally’ Sorenson

Spokane

Graveside service for Selma “Sally” Sorenson, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Sorenson, who died Monday, was 92.

She was born in Minnesota and had been a Spokane resident since 1928. She was a self-employed seamstress and a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, including Grace Garvin, Jean Moe and Linda Reinbolt, all of Spokane, and Robert Sorenson of Portland.

Vernon Gilkison

Spokane

Service for Vernon L. Gilkison, 62, is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Gilkison died Sunday.

He was born in Wildrose, N.D.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Gilkison; two sons, Daniel and Ronald Gilkison, both of Renton, Wash.; one daughter, Julie Reynolds of Renton; two stepsons, Bruce Norton and Thomas McMillian of Spokane; four stepdaughters, Tereasa Ashbaugh, Pam McMillian, Mary Toone and Patricia McMillian, all of Spokane; one brother, Roger Gilkison of Pensacola, Fla.; and 23 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Olaf Satran

Bayview, Idaho

Graveside service for Olaf B. Satran, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Satran, a former Spokane resident, died Monday.

He was born in Clearbrook, Minn.

He worked for White Pine Sash Co. in Spokane for 20 years and had worked for Boise Cascade in Spokane.

He lived in Post Falls and Bayview for the last 12 years, and in Spokane for 40 years before that.

He worked under the AFL-CIO Lumber Union and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Inez; one son, Duane Satran of Pasco; two daughters, Ilene Mott of Spokane, and Betty Cook of Mica, Wash.; one brother, Albert Satran of Clearbrook, Minn.; two sisters, Bertina Haugen of Fosston, Minn., and Clara De Cathileanu of Rochester, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Marvin Moreland

Malden, Wash.

Service for Marvin Moreland, 86, is set for 11 a.m. today at Malden Community Congregational Church. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Rosalia, Wash., is in charge of arrangements. Burial of urn will be at Pine City (Wash.) Cemetery.

Born in Malden, Mr. Moreland died Sunday.

He graduated from Malden High School in 1927 and retired from the Milwaukee Railroad after 28 years.

He was a member of Malden Community Congregational Church.

Mr. Moreland is survived by his wife of 18 years, Julia Moreland; three sons, Wayne Moreland of Spokane, Kenny Moreland of Lander, Wyo., and Jim Moreland of Eureka, Calif.; one daughter, Julie Ciesielski of Malden; one brother, Raleigh Moreland of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Marion Mowder

Spokane

Service for Marion P. Mowder, 77, is set for 1 p.m. today at Valley Assembly of God Church. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mowder, who was born in Arkansas City, Kan., died Sunday.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

He moved to Spokane in 1958 from Oklahoma City and worked for Continental Oil Company for 42 years before retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Valley Assembly of God Church.

Mr. Mowder is survived by his wife of 58 years, Earlene Mowder; three daughters, Sherri Wickman of Upland, Calif., Marilyn Breland of Kirkland, Wash., and Leeza Storey of Spokane; two sons, Bob Mowder of Spokane and Michael Mowder of Boise; two sisters, Kathryn Snyder of Kensington, Md., and Jerelyn Hurd of Ponca City, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Rollin Ricketts

Ocean Shores, Wash.

Private family service was held for Rollin F. Ricketts, 78, at his request.

Mr. Ricketts, a former Davenport and Newport, Wash., resident, died July 5.

He was born in Shawnee, Ohio.

He was a high school teacher and coach in Montana, Newport and Davenport, where he had lived for 35 years.

He also directed the choir at the Methodist Church in Davenport for many years.

Mr. Ricketts and his wife, Fran, moved to Ocean Shores in September.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years; one son, Robert Ricketts of Everett; one daughter, Ronne Fletcher of Mesa, Wash.; two brothers; two sisters; and four grandchildren.
