Panel Formed To Find Zinser Successor Selection Process Expected To Take About One Year

A panel of 25 people will work to nominate a successor to Elisabeth Zinser as president of the University of Idaho, including three members of the state Board of Education.

Board President Curtis Eaton on Wednesday announced 23 of the 25 panel members, with another faculty member to be named later, along with a statewide representative.

Zinser left the university at the start of July after six years as president to become chancellor at the University of Kentucky-Lexington.

Eaton will serve on the search committee along with board members Jerry Hess of Nampa and Roy Mosman of Moscow.

Mosman and former Idaho Sen. James McClure, a University of Idaho graduate, earlier were named co-chairmen of the search-screening committee. Mosman said they met in Boise on Monday to finalize recommendations on membership.

The process is expected to take about one year. In the meantime, retired provost Thomas Bell is serving as acting president. Mosman said national advertising for the position can start as early as September, even before a job description is written.

Jerry Wallace, the university’s financial vice president, also will serve on the search panel.

Other members:

Jean’ne Shreeve, vice provost for research and graduate studies and Kurt Olsson, dean of the College of Letters and Science.

Arthur Rourke, head and professor in the Department of Biological Sciences.

Faculty members, Mary Dupree, Mario Reyes, Mark Anderson and Mary Bolin.

Student member, Sean Wilson, student president.

Professional staff, Carole Hahn, Affirmative Action director and classified, Jane Baillargeon, chair of the Staff Affairs Committee.

Statewide representatives, Roger Jones of Rupert, Emma Atchley of Ashton and Karen Rosholt of Twin Falls.

Foundation board, Delores Chapman, and alumni board, Larry Knight.

State legislators, the chairmen of the House and Senate education committees, Sen. John Hansen of Idaho Falls and Rep. Ron Black of Twin Falls and Rep. James “Doc” Lucas, Moscow.
