Frank Greene Spokane

Rosary service for former priest, teacher and newspaperman Frank J. Greene will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Greene, 72, died Wednesday, from lung cancer.

Born in Spokane, he graduated from Gonzaga High School and Gonzaga University.

He had taught at Gonzaga High School, and from 1972 until 1976, at Gonzaga University. He went to work for The Spokesman-Review in 1973 as makeup editor.

He had been ordained as a Jesuit priest and received a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. He taught for 10 years at Seattle University and attended graduate classes at New York University, while working in two parishes in Manhattan.

In 1972 he returned to Spokane and in 1976 left the priesthood and was married.

He retired from the newspaper in 1988.

He was a member of the Over the Hill Gang at Liberty Lake Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Greene; two stepsons, Tom Rousseau of Hillsboro, Ore., and Curly Rousseau of Spokane; one stepdaughter, Jan Pierce of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Moreeta Arnold St. Maries

Service for Moreeta Ann Arnold, 59, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Yates-Hodge Funeral Home, St. Maries. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries.

Mrs. Arnold, who was born in Idaho, died Tuesday.

She graduated from St. Maries High School, then moved to Arcata, Calif., and married Don Larsen in 1953. She moved to St. Maries in 1958 and they divorced in 1959.

In 1959 she married Marion Arnold. They divorced in 1973.

She lived in various places, including Mountain Home, Idaho, Bermuda and Tennessee. She returned to St. Maries in 1970 and was employed as a secretary for the employment office. She also worked for George and Minerva’s Cafe.

Mrs. Arnold enjoyed sewing, painting, fishing, camping and being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include five sons, Don Larsen of Arcata, Jeff Arnold of Marysville, Wash., James Arnold of Santa, Idaho, John Arnold of Arlington, Wash., and Stephen Arnold of Alaska; a daughter, Vickie Caswell of Superior, Mont.; her mother, Moreeta Taylor of St. Maries; six brothers, Eugene, Murl, Wesley, John and Doug Sines, all of St. Maries, and Truman Sines of Harrison, Idaho; three sisters, Juanita Mokry of Plummer, Idaho, and Susan Millikin and Vickey Worthington, both of St. Maries; and 13 grandchildren.

Yvonne Schenk Harrington, Wash.

Memorial service for Yvonne Schenk, 64, was held Wednesday at the Harrington Nazarene Church.

Mrs. Schenk, who died July 6, was a lifetime Harrington resident.

She was a homemaker and a member of Order of the Eastern Star.

Her husband, Lester Schenk, died last November.

She is survived by one son, Tom Schenk of Harrington; two daughters, Elaine Henderson of Garfield, Wash., and Meka Eaton of Harrington; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrington Library or the Harrington Cemetery Endowment Care Fund.

Birdie Shaw Spokane

Service for Birdie L. Shaw, 88, was held Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial was at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Born in Weldon, Ill., Mrs. Shaw died Monday.

She had lived in Springdale, Wash., where she and her husband operated a chicken ranch. She was a 50-year Spokane resident, and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Her husband, Albert Shaw, died in 1979.

She is survived by one niece, Anne Schriebe of Federal Way, Wash.

Lucille Terrell Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Lucille A. Terrell, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Terrell, who was born in Oakesdale, Wash., died Tuesday.

She lived in St. Maries from 1923 to 1959 before moving to Spokane, where she lived until 1972.

She married Clarence Terrell and they lived in Athol and Cocolalla, Idaho. They moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1989.

Mrs. Terrell was a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband and brother.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph and John Babinksi of Spokane; a daughter, Marilyn Reynolds of Coeur d’Alene; and a sister, Elizabeth McCarthy of San Pablo, Calif.

Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association.

Norma McQuown Spokane

Memorial service for Norma Lucas McQuown, 84, will be at 1 p.m. today at Centenary United Methodist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McQuown, who died Monday, was born in Spokane.

She graduated from Washington State College in 1928 and was a schoolteacher in Oakesdale, Wash.

She had also worked as book room manager at Lewis and Clark High School, a librarian at public schools and libraries, and taught senior Sunday school at Centenary United Methodist Church. She also served as choir director at Pacific Avenue Christian Church.

Mrs. McQuown was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Leah-Electra Chapter and the Daughters of the Nile.

Her husband, Darrel McQuown, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one sister, Betty Bounds of Spokane.

Elizabeth Haney Spokane

Vigil service for Elizabeth J. “Betty” Haney, 85, will be held at 6 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Born in Seattle, Mrs. Haney died Monday.

She had worked at Sacred Heart Medical Center as a medical secretary and at Kaufer’s bookstore.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and Altar Society.

Her husband, Mark Haney, died in 1973.

Mrs. Haney is survived by one brother, Dick Rivers of California; two sons, Terrance Haney of Hawaii and Michael Haney of Colorado; one daughter, Patricia Donges of Spokane; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

William Link Spokane

Service for William D. Link, 74, is set for 11 a.m. today at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Link died Tuesday.

He was born in Odessa, Wash., and had been a 45-year Spokane resident.

He retired from Kaiser Aluminum.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, the Garden Club of America and the Inland Empire Dahlia Society. He had been a senior dahlia judge after retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Link; and one son, William Link Jr. of Spokane.

William Palmer Jr. Clayton, Wash.

Memorial service for William Charles Palmer Jr., 18, is planned for 7 p.m. Saturday at 4610 Swenson Road in Clayton. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Palmer died July 5 after his car ran off the road near Coeur d’Alene and struck a row of mailboxes.

He was born in Lake Forest, Ill., and had lived in Deer Park since 1981.

He was a 1995 graduate of Deer Park High School and was to begin basic training for the Army in September.

He is survived by his parents, William and Michele Palmer; three sisters, Carrie Baker of Spokane, and Kendall and Kristie Palmer, both at home; his grandparents, Russell and Marge Palmer of Spokane, and Ruth Buehrer of Libertyville, Ill.

Sharon Bishop Spokane

Service for Sharon L. Bishop, 52, will be at noon today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bishop, who died Tuesday, was born in Los Angeles.

She had lived in Spokane for 20 years and was a bus driver for Spokane Transit Authority for six years.

She was a member of Nine Mile Falls Community Church.

Mrs. Bishop is survived by three sons, Scott Cotter, and Walt and Wade Bishop, all of Spokane; one daughter, Camille Huffman of Lake Tahoe, Nev.; her mother, Leone Croy of Spokane; two brothers, Robert Croy of Casper, Wyo., and John Croy of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Stella Bayless Spokane

No service will be held for Stella L. Bayless, 80, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Bayless died Monday.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Burroughs of Bonny Lake, Wash., and Cathy Burgard of Spokane; one son, Tom Bayless of Colbert; one sister, Josephine Wunsch of Spokane; six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Hilda Geil Spokane

Graveside service for Hilda E. Geil, 86, is set for 10 a.m. Monday at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Geil, who died Tuesday, was born in Greenfield, Wis.

She was a 60-year Spokane resident and had been a nurse.

Survivors include one daughter, Marjorie Bailey of Spokane; one son, James Geil of San Diego; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Milton Oswald Spokane

Memorial service for Milton K. Oswald, 80, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Sixth Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mr. Oswald, who died Tuesday, was born in Idaho Falls.

He worked as an electrician for Burlington Northern Railroad from 1948 to 1977, when he retired.

He had lived in Spokane for 41 years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Verla Oswald; two sons, Dale Oswald of Bothell, Wash., and Donald Oswald of Spokane; one daughter, Shana Oswald of Spokane; one brother, Lloyd Oswald of Salt Lake City; one sister, Ethel Neff of St. George, Utah; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William Cass Spokane

Memorial service for William R. Cass, 61, is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he was a member. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cass, who died Wednesday, was born in Fort Wayne, Ind.

He had lived in Spokane for 18 years, and moved here from California.

He had worked for US West Communications for 31 years and retired last month.

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Communication Workers of America.

His survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mary; one son, Donald Cass of Louisiana; and one brother, John Cass of San Diego.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Alberta Higgs Spokane

Memorial service for Alberta D. Higgs, 90, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Luke’s Extended Care Center. Inurnment will be at Pines Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Higgs died Sunday.

She was born in Goddard, Kan., and moved to Spokane in 1975.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, and was a volunteer with The March of Dimes.

She is survived by one son, Ronald Higgs of Golden, Colo.; one daughter, Zana Higgs of Spokane; seven grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Dorothy Hegnauer Spokane

Memorial service for Dorothy V. Hegnauer, 86, was held Thursday at Riverview Memorial Terrace Chapel.

Miss Hegnauer, who was born in Urbana, Ill., died Sunday.

She was a social worker for Washington State Public Assistance and had lived in Spokane for 44 years.

She is survived by one sister, Helen Yeo of Spokane.

Justin Cook Reardan, Wash.

Private graveside service for Justin Thomas Cook, 10, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Reardan Cemetery. Memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Reardan. Bonney-Watson Funeral Home in Seattle is in charge of arrangements.

Justin died Tuesday in Seattle from leukemia.

He was born in Pullman and attended Reardan Elementary School.

He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Diana Cook; two sisters, Kimberly Sakach and Trishanna Davis, both of Reardan; his grandparents, Laurine Cook of Morris, Minn., and Harold and Barbara Masterson of Modesto, Calif.
