U.S. Readies For Action

Ecuador beat Peru 2-1 in the America Cup, clinching a a spot in the second round for Mexico and Colombia and putting the United States in precarious position.

The Americans play Argentina tonight and would advance with a win or a tie. The U.S. team also would advance with a one-goal loss in which the Americans score at least one goal.

A 1-0 loss would leave the United States and Ecuador tied on points, with both teams having scored two goals and allowed two. A coin flip would determine which nation gets the final spot in the quarterfinals.
