Summer Of Strikes Starts In Britain

A one-day strike paralyzed Britain’s rail network Friday, the first of a series of job actions planned to underscore demands by union members for higher pay.

Drivers on London Underground subway trains may join a July 27 strike, and further stoppages are scheduled for Aug. 8, Aug. 25 and Sept. 12. The Eurostar Channel Tunnel train service to France is not involved.

Business chiefs expressed their disappointment and frustration at the prospect of another summer of strikes.
