Stevens County Wreck Kills 3 Honda Apparently Ran Stop Sign, Is Rammed By Pickup; 2 Others Critical

Three people were killed and three were injured on Saturday night when a pickup truck and a car collided at an intersection in Stevens County southwest of Deer Park.

Emergency workers revived one man at the scene. That man and another were airlifted to Deaconess Medical Center in critical condition.

The two critically injured men and three men who were killed were all traveling in a grayish-brown, two-door Honda, but it was too early to determine who was driving.

The driver of the pickup, 17-year-old Jeremy Bonham of Nine Mile Falls, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Troopers said Bonham, who was traveling alone, was able to walk to the ambulance on his own.

Washington State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Chris Powell said that the pickup was traveling east along Swenson Road when it slammed into the side of the Honda, which was southbound on Glen Grove-Staley Road. Witnesses told troopers that the Honda ran the stop sign on Glen Grove-Staley Road, Powell said.

The impact left both the truck and the car in a ditch about 30 feet away. The white Toyota pickup truck came to a rest on its side at the base of a 10-foot bank, facing the intersection. The Honda lay upside down in front of the pickup.

Three men were ejected from the Honda. Their bodies were thrown into the weeds as far as 30 feet away. One of the fatality victims was in his 20s, another a teenager and the third man did not have any identification.

Troopers do not believe anyone in the Honda was wearing a seat belt. They said it was too early to determine whether alcohol was a factor.

Debris from the Honda, including a pair of black boots, also littered the area.

A resident, who did not witness the accident, said the intersection is a particularly bad one.

“There is always somebody running that thing,” the man said. “I knew something like this was going to happen. I just hoped somebody wasn’t going to get killed, especially not three.”
