Weekend Retreat For Artists Offers Workshops, Relaxation

“A Weekend of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture from Life” is the theme of an artists’ weekend retreat at the Bar Nothing Ranch in a remote area near Priest Lake, on Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30.

A number of models will pose throughout the weekend. There won’t be any formal instruction, but discussion is encouraged.

Artists are invited to bring slides of their work to be shown Saturday night.

The cost is $75 for two days and camping. For those who opt not to camp, cost for the workshops is $30 per day.

There is plenty of room for tents and some room for motor homes. There are showers, a hot tub and a communal kitchen in the ranch house.

The Northeast Washington Fair is seeking burgeoning, amateur talent to participate in its “Country Flavored” talent show at the Northeast Washington Fair in Colville.

Art demonstrations

Spokane artist Don Nepean will stage watercolor demonstrations today at the Cheney Cowles Museum, 2316 W. First, from 1 to 4 p.m. It’s the third in a series called “Meet the Artist Days.”

The series is to introduce the public to local artists, the museum and its gift shop.

On Sunday, July 23, Nicole Campanella, a bead artist, will demonstrate her beadwork at the museum from 1 to 4 p.m.

Campanella’s art is currently in private collections in seven countries. Her work is inspired by the Native American artistry of beads, leather and other materials.

Watercolor Workshop

Richland artist Kathryn Kaye will lead a two-day watercolor class for adults at the Adam East Museum and Art Center on Friday and Saturday, July 21 and 22.

Experience isn’t necessary and beginners are invited. Cost is $45 and participants must bring their own supplies.

Russian Pianist leads workshop

Alexander Peskanov, world-renown Russian composer, author and pianist, will conduct a piano workshop at the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy in Boise on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 4 and 5.

Peskanov, a strong supporter of rigid technical training, has appeared with numerous symphonies throughout the world. His talent can also be heard on several CD releases.

Calling all fiddlers

The Royal Gorge Bridge in Canon City, Colo., is sponsoring its sixthannual “Fiddlers on the Gorge” competition, Aug. 13.

The yearly event attracts fiddlers from all over the country. The top six fiddlers in four age groups will receive more than $2,500 in prize money.
