Man Held After High-Speed Chase

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 35-year-old Spokane man faces felony charges after leading a Washington State Patrol trooper on a high-speed chase near Liberty Lake.

David A. Barton, of 4004 E. Nebraska, was being held Sunday night in the Spokane County Jail on charges of eluding police, possessing drugs with the intent to manufacture and sell and possessing stolen property. He also faces four misdemeanor traffic charges.

Trooper Bill Dingfield spotted a car eastbound on Interstate 90 at 6:13 a.m. Sunday that made a U-turn through the median.

Dingfield tried to stop the car, which then increased its speed to more than 100 mph. The car left the freeway at the Appleway exit and crashed through a chain-link fence at the corner of Fourth and Conklin, according to the WSP.

The car traveled west on Eighth Avenue. The driver then hit the brakes, jumped out and fled on foot.

The car kept going, through a yard and back onto Eighth. Dingfield stopped the car with his patrol car.

A Spokane County sheriff’s deputy arrested Barton. , DataTimes
