Valley Man Drowns At Boulder Beach

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 20-year-old Spokane Valley man drowned Sunday evening in the Spokane River at Boulder Beach, near Upriver Dam.

The body of Jason Boatsman, 20, of 8111 E. Marietta, was pulled from the river by the Spokane County Sheriff Department’s dive team.

Emergency crews were called to the river at 8:32 p.m. At first it was thought that one person had been having problems in the river, and that another dove in to rescue that person, according to the Spokane Fire Department.

Firefighters, sheriff’s deputies, Spokane police officers and an ambulance crew responded to the river, but only one body was found.

A witness told authorities that the man had been submerged for 14 minutes.

Boatsman was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center, which refused to release any information at the family’s request.
