Montana Road Will Be Closed For Repair

From Staff And Wire Reports

Reconstruction and repair of badly damaged sections of the Going-to-the-Sun Road will begin Wednesday night and close the road to through traffic five nights a week, the park said Monday.

The road will close to through traffic at 9 p.m. and reopen at 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights beginning Wednesday night, the park said. Travelers seeking to drive from one side of the park to the other during those hours will have to take U.S. 2 around the park’s southern boundary.

The scenic road over the Continental Divide was heavily damaged by storms this spring. Emergency repairs will allow it to remain open to summer tourist traffic during the day and on weekends.

The construction project was originally scheduled to start July 5 but was delayed because of lingering snowpack near Logan Pass.
