Junior League Names New Leadership Team

The following women have been named to the 1995-96 leadership team of the Junior League of Spokane:

Candi Morton Gilchrist, Kristi Blake, Nancy Black, Tammy Tracy, Donna Halvorson, Jane Baldwin and Clysle Brooks-Hammond, all on the executive committee.

Julie O’Callahan, Carla Percival, Paula Johnson, Sarah Porter, Joanne Ferris, Danette Driscoll, Regina Thomas, Melanie Mikkelsen, Catherine O’Connell, Melody Hunt, Stephanie Powers and Molly Preston, board of directors. Bridget Piper and Jan House, advisers to the board of directors.

LuAnn Stone, Gaye Shumaker, Mary Kuney, Cindy Dandoy, Meg Lindsay, Marlo Maxwell, Lora Lee Stover, Christi Culp, Kathy Friedlander and Candace Dahlstrom, all chairmen of projects and special committees.

Tammie Hanson, Judy Rogers, Karen Hart-Dickson, Laura Lawton-Forsyth, Jennifer Brumblay-Dalley, Gina Peterson, Mary O’Toole and Karal Cox, all assistant chairmen and chairmen-elect.

Roger Peven has become a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Membership is by invitation of its board of regents.

Peven is chief trial attorney for the Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington and Idaho and has been practicing in Spokane for 20 years.

Mead High School Music Department came away with several top honors at the Hyack Music Festival in Vancouver, British Columbia.

It received the Vancouver Heritage Music Festival Sweepstakes Award and the festival’s Adjudicators Award, was the AAA division winner in the Hyack Parade and won the Percussion Award in the Hyack Parade.

Mead’s Jazz I received the Gold Award and was named the Vancouver Heritage Festival Outstanding Instrumental Group. Jazz II received the Silver Award.

The Symphonic Orchestra received the Silver Award; the String Orchestra, the Bronze Award; the Wind Ensemble, the Gold Award; and the Symphonic Band, the Heritage Festival Silver Award.

Clyde/West of Spokane has received the Preferred Vendor Award from Central Pre-Mix signifying exemplary service and extraordinary professionalism as a supplier. This is the second consecutive year Clyde/West has been the recipient.

Leo Tomayko, a paratransit van driver with Spokane Transit Authority, took first place in the National Roadeo competition in Portland. In 1990, the 13-year STA employee won the first competition ever held.

Three Spokane gymnasts from The Lilac City Gymnastics Center won top honors in the 1995 USA Gymnastics State Championship in Issaquah, Wash.

Libby Smith, 10, won the Level 7, All-Around Championship in the child division. Felicity Frederick, 14, won the Level 6 Vaulting Championship in the senior division. She also placed sixth on the floor exercise, third on bars, and fourth in the all-around.

Kolbie Pearsall, 10, won the Level 5 Vaulting Championship and placed fifth on bars and eighth in the all-around. Nichole Lafferty, 13, placed third on balance beam and the bars in the Level 7 competition.

Also placing in the vaulting event were level-5 gymnasts Ciara Beard, sixth, and Amy Aspinliter, fourth.
