Marlon’s E: Smiling; His World: Bright And Gay

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

After all these years of living around the world, in his Los Angeles spread and on his South Seas island, Marlon Brando has finally found a home. In Ireland.

That’s where the 71-year-old actor is shooting a film with Debra Winger and Johnny Depp. And that’s where he was, upon landing, struck with a “rush of emotion.”

“I was brought up Irish,” Brando told the Irish Independent. “My grandmother was full of Irish expressions, and it was very striking when I got off the plane. The words came to me, ‘I’m home.’ It means moving a lot of furniture around. But I think it very well might be worth it because what’s worth anything more than feeling at home? … I have never felt at home really in the places I’ve been.”

The film, naturally enough, is titled “Divine Rapture.”

Loose talk

Boy George on rock credibility (in Details magazine): “I think in the music business you get taken seriously if you have a guitar. Take Prince: He can mince around the stage in heels and polka-dot panties, but people take him seriously because he’s got a guitar. I must get one.”

And how many of YOU voted for him in 1972?

George McGovern turns 73 today.

Bare hands must be considered lewd in Singapore

Sales of Janet Jackson’s laser disc “Janet” aren’t going well in Singapore. The disc was banned on Monday because its cover recreates the cover of Rolling Stone magazine that shows her nude above the waist except for a pair of male hands covering her breasts.

Hey, Ed, why don’t you tell us what you really think?

So, what did “The Abyss” star Ed Harris think of that film’s ending? “It’s preposterous,” he told Premiere magazine. “It’s a really good movie for two hours, and then it’s like, what? They saved the worst effect for last. I just thought that after all that work it was really sad.”

The way things were, that might have been weeks

The quote: “I’m on the program for the rest of my life.” The speaker: Actor Gary Busey. The occasion: Busey, 50, was responding to the court order for him to continue outpatient therapy for cocaine use. The history: Busey was arrested for possession of cocaine and other drugs after being found unconscious on May 4 in his Malibu home.

Then again, we did earn some very high ratings

At least one British journalist is regretting the Hugh Grant feeding frenzy. “I was unhappy that we were taking photographs of them in the garden,” BBC head John Hirt said of Grant and girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley. “I was unhappy that we revealed where they lived. I was unhappy that we gave the amount of prominence to the story that we did….”

Cool! Think he’d be willing to do it on camera?

How badly does director Danny Cannon want to make a sequel to “Judge Dredd” with Sylvester Stallone? “I’d rather stick needles in my eyes,” Cannon told Entertainment Weekly.
