Shirley Mumm Spokane

Service for Shirley E. Mumm, 72, is set for 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home with burial to follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Mumm died Friday in Great Falls, Mont.

She was born in Wolf Point, Mont.

A homemaker, Mrs. Mumm had lived in Havre, Mont., from 1938 until 1967, when she moved to Spokane.

She had worked as a receptionist at the Eagles Lodge.

In 1993 she moved to Big Sandy, Mont., to be with her daughter.

Her husband Ralph Mumm, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Jerry Mumm of St. Paul; two daughters, Terry Halverson of Bozeman, Mont., and Joanne Lake of Valley, Wash.; two sisters, Edna “Pete” Rothert and Pat Paulsen, and one brother, Robert Brown, all of Kalispell, Mont.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

James King Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for James H. King, 74, will be today at 1 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. King, who was born in Ontario, died Friday. He graduated from high school in Michigan, and served in the Army during World War II.

He became a film editor in the television and motion picture industry, and edited TV series such as “My Three Sons,” “Happy Days,” “Family Affair” and others.

He retired in 1972 and moved to Coeur d’Alene. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nancy; two sons, Mathew of Coeur d’Alene and James of Spokane; a brother, Edward King of Lake Orion, Mich.; a sister, Mary Cooper of California; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Eunice Adams Spokane

Service for Eunice F. Adams, 73, is set for 10 a.m. today at Mountain View Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Adams, who died Sunday, was born in Joplin, Mo.

A homemaker, she had lived in Spokane for 15 years and was a member of Mountain View Assembly of God. She was a volunteer at local nursing homes for many years.

Her husband, Joseph Adams, in 1994.

She is survived by one son, Charles Adams of Spokane; one daughter, Helen Reed of Kalispell, Mont.; and five grandchildren

Irene Voise Spokane

Funeral Mass for Irene Voise, 90, is planned for 1 p.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Odessa, Wash. Inurnment will be at Pioneer Cemetery in Moses Lake. Strate Funeral Home in Odessa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Voise, who died Saturday, was born in Carlos, Minn.

A homemaker, Mrs. Voise was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Her husband, William Voise, died in 1979.

She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Haase of Spokane and Shirley Besancon of Phoenix; one son, Richard Voise of Odessa; one sister, Eleanor Echelard of Havre, Mont.; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Margarete Reese Spokane

Service for Margarete Reese, 94, will be held at 2 p.m. today at, Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Reardan (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mrs. Reese, who died Saturday, was born in Germany.

She and her husband had farmed in Peone Prairie and Reardan and moved to Spokane in 1953. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edward Reese.

Frances Beckvold Otis Orchards

Rosary and vigil service for Frances Mildred Beckvold, 85, is planned for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Trentwood. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Beckvold, who died Saturday at home, was born in Philips, Wis., and moved to Idaho with her parents in 1916.

She graduated from the Ursuline Convent and Academy in Moscow, Idaho, in 1928.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Otis Orchards for 48 years.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Eugene Beckvold; two sons, James Weeks of Portland and Gerald Beckvold of Colville, Wash.; three daughters, Mary Tyner of Spokane, Sharon Czerwonka of Greenacres and Joan Thompson of Otis Orchards; one sister, Clara Knapik Arnold of Moscow; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Emil Johnson Spokane

Memorial service for Emil K. Johnson, 91, is set for 2 p.m. today at Lilac Plaza. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, who died Friday, was born in Mountain, N.D.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 53 years and had owned two grocery stores. He worked for United Retail Merchants and retired in 1969.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn Johnson; one daughter, Nancy Matthews of Portland; two sisters, Helen Weir of Spokane and Ethel Iverson of Grand Forks, N.D.; and two grandchildren.

Frieda Thornton The Dalles, Ore.

Service for Frieda Marie Thornton, 88, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in The Dalles. Graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane.

Mrs. Thornton died Friday.

She was born in Norway and moved to Spokane as a young girl.

She graduated from high school in Spokane and lived here until she moved to The Dalles in 1992.

She had been a member of the South Hill Christian Church in Spokane.

Her husband, Clarence Thornton, died in 1985.

Survivors include two sons, Warren Thornton, Jr. of The Dalles and Stanley Thornton of Honolulu; her sister, Margaret Calliott of Spokane; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Myron Pierce Sandpoint

A remembrance service with family and friends for Myron Pierce, 90, will be Friday from 1-3 p.m. at the family home. Coffelt Funeral Service, Sandpoint, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pierce, who was born in the Oklahoma Territories, died Sunday.

His family homesteaded in Eastern Colorado, then moved to a farm on Fry Creek in Sagle, Idaho, in 1919.

He married Margaret Grisham in 1933 and they built a home on Bottle Bay Road on Lake Pend Oreille.

At various times he was employed as a mechanic, farmer, miner, carpenter, electrician and heavy equipment operator. He was employed by the Bonner County Road Department for 21 years before retiring in 1970.

Mr. Pierce loved his family, did not care much for television, neckties or politics, but enjoyed current events, nature, dogs and trains.

Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, Del of Sagle and Ben of Kennewick; two daughters, Dorothy Leach of Spokane and Carol Brown of Caldwell, Idaho; two brothers, Gaylord and Max, both of Sagle; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

George Atwood Spokane

Graveside service for George E. Atwood, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Atwood, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

He served with the Seabees during World War II.

He worked for the federal government in maintenance and had worked at Grand Coulee and Chief Joseph dams from 1940 until 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Atwood; two sisters, Gloria Burnham of Walla Walla and Dorothy Janes of Redmond, Wash.; and one brother, Robert Atwood of Spokane.

Alice Swedo Spokane

Graveside service for Alice M. Swedo, 75, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Fairmount Memorial Park. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Swedo, a 46-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.

She was born in Ritzville.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Swedo is survived by her husband, Leonard Swedo; one son, Robert Swedo of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ogden Hall Shelter for Women and Children or the American Cancer Society.

Caroline Graves Spokane

Memorial Service for Caroline Graves, 66, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Park Tower Apartments. Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Graves, who died Saturday, was born in Sioux Falls, S.D. She had lived in Spokane for 64 years.

She was a nurses’ aide.

Mrs. Graves is survived by five sons, Richard, Ronald, Jeffrey and Michael Noddings and Steven Burdick; two sisters, Ester Romereim and Evelyn Kennison; and six grandchildren.
