Anti-Drug Funds Awarded By Hud

From Staff Reports

The federal government awarded the Spokane Housing Authority $40,975 to help fight drugs.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the award this week.

The money for the housing authority’s drug elimination program will enhance its existing public housing programs, such as Reclaiming Our Area Residences, or ROAR, according to a statement by HUD officials.

The grant is part of HUD’s strategy to improve public housing with physical upgrades, programs that create economic opportunities for residents and tough measures against crime and drug abuse.

The federal money has some strings attached: It has to be used for employing security officers, contracting police officers, increasing safety through building improvements or for drug prevention, intervention and treatment programs.
