Filing Date For Opening Slots On School Board Coming Up

Anyone interested in running for a school board slot needs to file between July 24 and 28.

Candidates must fill out a one-page declaration of candidacy at the Spokane County elections office in the Courthouse. Public disclosure forms on campaign finances are required later.

A candidate must be a registered voter and a resident of the school district, and in some cases a particular region within the district.

The school board openings on the North Side and the people who now hold the positions include:

Spokane District 81 (at-large positions): Rob Fukai and Carol Wendle. Wendle doesn’t plan to run again, but Fukai does.

Mead: District 2, Mary Jane Thompson; District 3, Robert Olson; District 4, Phyrne Ostlind. All three plan to run this fall.

Deer Park: District 1, Chet Smith; District 2, Robert Peterson; District 4, Susan Lee; District 5, Brenda Lippert.

Riverside: District 2, Katherine Zollars; District 3, Larry Frowick; District 4, Debbi Ogden.

Nine Mile Falls (at-large positions): Georgann Porterfield, Paul Grubbs, Janet Johnston, Al Flaim.

Great Northern (at-large positions): Kenneth William Pegg, Amy Shuland, Greg Lahti.

Orchard Prairie (at-large positions): Melodie Miner, Terri Bonallo, James Strandy.
