Galloway Signs Five-Year, $7.9 Million Contract

Associated Press

Joey Galloway, the top draft choice of the Seahawks, agreed Wednesday to a five-year contract for a reported $7.9 million.

Shawn Trell, one of Galloway’s agents, said the former Ohio State wide receiver would fly to Seattle in time to join other rookies and selected veterans in workouts this afternoon.

Galloway, the eighth player chosen in the draft, stands to receive a $1 million advance on base pay for his rookie year, and 75 percent of his salary in the third and fourth years is guaranteed.

Meanwhile, Seahawks executive vice president Mickey Loomis said defensive lineman Steve Emtman may visit training camp by early next week.

Emtman, a former Cheney High School and University of Washington star and the first player drafted in 1992, became a free agent Monday after being waived by the Indianapolis Colts.

Injuries have dogged his pro career. He was waived by the Colts after refusing to accept a reduction in his $2 million salary for 1995.
