Weather Delays Discovery’s Landing

Compiled From Wire Services

Thick fog and low clouds in Florida spoiled the Discovery crew’s planned homecoming Friday, extending the five astronauts’ stay in space at least another day.

The shuttle crew had planned to land at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. at 7:54 a.m. EDT. But the fog and clouds diminished visibility on the landing strip, and the shuttle was waved off for that attempt as well as a second landing try an hour and a half later.

If the weather cooperates, the shuttle is due to touch down in Florida today at 6:26 a.m. EDT (3:26 a.m. PDT).
