Maradona Signs Contract
Diego Maradona, whose worldwide soccer ban for drug abuse expires in September, signed a 2-1/2-year contract with his former Argentine club the Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The 34-year-old great, who led Argentina to the 1986 World Cup title, is eligible to play Sept. 28 and will receive approximately $8 million in salary and bonuses.
English Premier League players Bruce Grobbelaar, John Fashanu and Hans Segers were charged with conspiracy in connection with game-fixing allegations in Southampton, England.
Detective superintendent Peter Long said the three players were charged with receiving money to influence the outcome of games.
