A bomb hidden in a motor scooter exploded today near a Hindu temple in Jammu, a northern town often targeted by Kashmiri separatists. At least one person was killed and 42 were injured.
The blast, which set the scooter on fire and threw it high up in the air, occurred as Hindus gathered outside the temple to prepare for a pilgrimage, the United News of India news agency reported.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
United News of India said one person was killed, a Hindu ascetic preparing for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, which begins Tuesday. Press Trust of India said 42 people were hurt.
