Explosion Rips Recycling Business

From Staff And Wire Reports

An explosion Wednesday morning at a new recycling business in Airway Heights destroyed a building, but workers inside escaped injury.

“I was driving up when it happened,” said Toby Combs, Airway Heights fire chief. “I really feel fortunate that no one was hurt.”

Combs had been checking International Tyre Cycle periodically to ensure that equipment functioned properly on Wednesday, the company’s first day of operation.

The explosion occurred in machinery that turns chipped tires into bulk oil, Combs said.

The blast destroyed the company’s 30,000-square-foot building.
