Tenants Escape Downtown Fire

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane firefighters doused a suspicious blaze in a downtown building early Wednesday while evacuating tenants.

Firefighters saw smoke when they arrived about 3:10 a.m. at 204 S. Wall, said Ron Bassen, a Spokane Fire Department battalion chief.

No one was injured in the fire.

Fire and smoke damage was confined to the first floor, Bassen said. Some smoke drifted into the second- and third-floor apartments.

The Fire Department is investigating the blaze as a possible arson fire.
