Alligator Captured In New York City

Associated Press

Remember the one about alligators in the sewer?

Well, here’s another story for the annals of urban legends, only this one’s for real: A 3-foot-long ‘gator was captured in a small lake in the borough of Queens.

After several fishermen reported seeing the creature, it emerged, hissing, from Kissena Park Lake and was captured barehanded by a day-camp worker who had prior experience handling reptiles.

The alligator was a male about 3 to 5 years old. Its former owner “probably thought it was very cute until it got big,” an officer said.
