Heart Attack Causes Accident, Kills Driver

A fatal heart attack led to a traffic accident near Sandpoint and sent another person to an area hospital.

Arden Preston Lalum, 75, of Gresham, Ore., was driving on Reader Bay Road, off Idaho Highway 57, Wednesday when he suffered a heart attack and drove off the road. He struck several trees before his Jeep came to a stop.

He was pronounced dead at the Newport (Wash.) Community Hospital. Lalum died from the heart attack, the Idaho State Police say.

A passenger, Barbara A. Springer, 59, of Troutdale, Ore., was treated at the hospital and released.
