Woman Held After Sister, Mother Shot

A Spokane woman was shot in the chest Sunday afternoon in Burbank, Wash., by her sister, who also shot their mother, according to the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Department.

Karen Dempsey, 39, of Spokane was treated for a gunshot wound to the chest at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco and released.

Mabel Searles, 75, of Burbank, was undergoing surgery at the same hospital Sunday night for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The shooting happened at 4:20 p.m. in Searles’ home. Another daughter also was shot at but wasn’t hit.

Daughter Mary Cluck, 47, of Pasco, was arrested by a Washington State Patrol trooper after fleeing her mother’s home in a motor home, according to the sheriff’s department.

Cluck is being held in the Walla Walla County jail. Deputies are investigating the motive for the shooting. Several weapons were recovered at Searles’ home.
