Head Start Director May Have Been Framed

From Staff And Wire Reports

Nampa police are investigating the possibility Canyon County Head Start director Alice Reyes, accused of mishandling federal funds, was set up.

But that has not taken the focus away from a regional office report that cited many concerns with the program, 3rd District Judge Sergio Gutierrez said Tuesday. Gutierrez is a member of the Head Start board.

Information was turned over to police on Wednesday.

An anonymous caller contacted Gutierrez and Reyes last week and claimed a Head Start employee framed Reyes over a long period of time. The ruse allegedly dates back to a November break-in at the Treasure Valley Transit office in Nampa, Gutierrez said.

The judge said he has received several anonymous calls since the issue first surfaced, but the caller seemed to know a lot.Gutierrez said program materials are accessible and there could have been opportunity for mishandling. The board will look into solving that, he said.
