North Hill Patrol Plans Picnic At Park

For an afternoon of hamburgers, hotdogs and accordion music, head to the Franklin Park picnic shelter Saturday.

The newly formed North Hill Neighborhood Observation Patrol is planning a barbecue to explain the program to neighborhood residents and to recruit new members.

“The whole idea of the picnic is to get more people involved in our North Hill NOP program,” said Nancy McClaughlin, cocoordinator of the program.

The North Hill NOP area is bounded by Francis on the north, Cora on the south, Division on the east and Maple on the west. The program is the only one in the city operating without a COP shop.

McClaughlin hopes to attract as many as 400 people to the picnic.

About 20 people are actively involved in the NOP program. Organizers would like to increase that number to about 150.

Besides offering hotdogs, hamburgers and other picnic fare, the barbecue will feature a performance by the Smith Family, an accordion band.
