World’s Richest Caddy On Way; ‘I’Ll Take The Wedge, Mr. Griffey’

Dave Trimmer Staff Writer

Ken Griffey Jr. isn’t letting a little thing like a broken left wrist keep him from being productive.

The Seattle Mariners’ superstar is planning to caddy for Ken Easley next weekend in the Ken Easley Celebrity Golf Tournament at The Creek at Qualchan.

Griffey, a neighbor of Easley’s, also will have an opportunity to spend time with his father, who is among the celebrities for the event.

Griffey was injured last June 26 when he crashed into the outfield wall at the Kingdome. He will miss three months.

Other celebrities for the 3-year-old event include James Worthy, Hugh Green, Jacob Green, George Atkinson and Walt Hazzard.

Fans have access to celebrities during the 7-hole Celebrity Shootout at 9 a.m. next Friday and during the tournament that afternoon and Saturday. The left-handed Griffey’s ability to sign autographs is questionable.

Griffey is expected at the event’s auction Thursday (cabe channel 25 Spokane, 13 Coeur d’Alene) at 7 p.m.

Among the items to be auctioned to benefit the Martin Luther King Family Outreach Center and the Wishing Star Foundation are a John Stockton ball, Griffey Jr. and Sr. ball, Napolean Kaufman-signed jersey, trips, compact discs signed by Madonna and Kenny Loggins and a signed Tom Petty poster.

Tournament openings remain. Cost is $475. Info: 624-8633.
